There were lots of busing services available on the campus because it was relatively large. Many students also traveled on bikes or even skateboards/scooters. Parking was tight on and around the university, so not many people brought their vehicles. How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Ryan: Professors were always willing to stay and talk privately after class, but many required to set a meeting during office hours. Advisers always required an appointment. How would you describe the dorm liferooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Ryan: Dorm life depended upon which dorm you got placed into. Some were newer and very nice. Others, were small and less luxurious. Dining at Kent was very good! There were many options and well-known chain restaurants. Socialization was very prevalent. There were lots of clubs and student groups. Which majors/programs are best represented and supported? Ryan: Kent is known mostly for fashion, teaching, and architectural programs. I studied integrated mathematics and got my teaching license. Kent supported their teachers very well and gave us many opportunities. They also worked very well with us when assigning our student teaching opportunities. How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Ryan: Very easy to meet new friends at Kent. Also they made sure that freshmen got involved in the community through a freshman-specific course that everyone took. Greek life wasnt overall very popular, however it was present. How helpful is the Career Centerand other student support services? Ryan: Kent States student center was very helpful. There were student services that would answer any questions. They also held job fairs for students that had recently or planned to graduate soon. How are the various study areas such aslibraries, the student union, and dorm lounges? Are they over-crowded, easily available, spacious? Ryan: The library could become very crowded, during finals/midterms, but dorm lounges were always available and students were always having study sessions to help each other out. Describe the surrounding town. Ryan: Kent is a beautiful, historic town. The locals are very friendly and proud of their town. There are many things to do in the area with a great night life. Introvert Whisperer / Finding Something-Worst Thing You Can Do For Your Career Why “Finding something” Is The Worst Thing You Can Do For Your Career The Worst Thing You Can Do For Your Career I just finished responding to a note a long time follower wrote me.  She has been unhappy in her occupational field for several years.  Lost her job and did a job search to “find something”.  The “something” she found was not something she liked.  Now more than ever before she is yearning to find an occupation she is passionate about. This story is a fairly consistent story and that’s why the statistics around job dissatisfaction stay at 60-70% of all workers. That’s a whole lot of unhappiness. I do find it an interesting thing that as important as making a decision is about a career direction, the process for making a decision is elusive and a person usually chooses the worst thing you can for your career. The age-old process of launching a job search to “find something” is about as good as it gets for most people.  They then spend decades being unhappy yet continuing to do the same thing repeatedly.  (The true sign of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results) I know it’s a tough decision and I know it’s easy to give up and to give into “finding something”. But think of this problem like this: It’s not JUST a job; it’s half your life.   Half your life. Isn’t half your life worth the time, effort and sometimes frustration to figure this out? Would you rather be in the 30-40% of happy satisfied workers? Or the 60-70% who hate what they do? Next time the feeling that you need to change careers comes over you, do the work to first figure out YOU.  Yes, that’s where the process starts.  You have to understand what resonates with you first. Obviously, the process involves other things and figuring out YOU isn’t simple but once you do â€" you’ll be glad you did.   The main message for you is this:  Your life is too important to relegate half of it to chance.  â€œFinding a job” is like winning the lottery.  Most of the time you won’t win.   You deserve the time it takes to figure out the RIGHT job. Multiplying fractions 0.5 Multiplication is one of the common used arithmetic operation in mathematics. Multiplication is denoted by a cross sign . In multiplication the order of the numbers doesnt change the answer. So multiplication of two numbers is always commutative and associative. Multiplication can be applied to different types of numbers such as fractions, integers, decimals. Fractions are the numbers written in p/q form. A fraction number cannot have denominator equal to zero. Fractions can be changed to decimals and vice versa. Example 1: Danny runs 0.5 miles every day. If he ran continuously for 4 days. How many miles did she cover? Solution: Number of miles ran each day = 0.5 = 1/2. Number of days he ran = 4. Total number of miles Danny covered = 4 x 1/2 = 4/2. (Here 4 and 2 have GCF 2. Divide numerator and denominator by 2.) This gives (4 2)/(2 2) = 2/1 =2. Hence Danny ran 2 miles in four days. Question: Multiple choice question (Pick the correct option.) What is the answer when 42 is multiplied with 0.5? a) 24 b) 21 c) 42 d) None of these. Correct answer: option a. Explanation: Here given for the multiplication 42 x 0.5 =? First multiply 42 with the number 5; 42 x 5 = 210. Then multiply 42 with the number 0; 42 x 0 = 00. Now add the two derived answers 210 + 000 = 210 and place a decimal point 21.0 Hence 42 x 0.5 = 21.

Meet the Tutorfair Foundation’s 1,000th volunteer! Last week the Tutorfair Foundation placed its 1,000th volunteer. What a remarkable thing! These 1,000 people have been a vastly talented and experienced group, coming from all walks of life and from all over the globe. They’ve all taken time out of their schedules, shared whatever they could with less advantaged students across the country and asked for nothing in return. Not all heroes wear capes! With such a huge number, it’s so easy to forget that each one of them has had a unique experience â€" all coming to us from different places and hoping for different things. To remedy this, we want to take a moment to introduce the world to our most recent fantastic volunteer â€" our 1,000th recruit, Janet. Tell us a little bit about you… “Hi, I'm originally from Liverpool but have lived in London area since I was a student. I have a BSc in maths and astrophysics and a Ph.D in astronomy. My thesis was on the evolution of supermassive black holes in galactic centres.” When you’re not thinking about supermassive black holes, what do you get up to? “I worked in IT for 25 years, final role was as project director for a successful outsourcing bid to run the IT and telecoms for a UK bank. I then took early retirement and have been spending my time since then volunteering in science education for a number of charities, coaching and playing badminton and monitoring butterflies and moths for nature organisations.” What do you do when you’re volunteering with the Foundation? “I’m tutoring in Oaklands School in Bethnal Green. I go in on a Wednesday afternoon to work with two small groups of Year 13 Physics students.” What made you decide to get involved? “I came across the Foundation after a Google search for volunteering opportunities. This particular opportunity fitted in well with other tutoring I am doing in central London. I spend a lot of time down in Devon now but come up to London each week during the winter months so finding several tutoring roles within the same timeframe is very time efficient for me and rewarding as well.” So you’ve done lots of tutoring in the past? “I have tutored both secondary and primary school students in central London in maths and physics for the past five years. I’ve also been tutoring online for the past couple of years.” What are you hoping to get out of your experience with the Foundation? “I want to feel that I have helped them in achieving their academic goals and see some hard evidence for this.” Finally, what do people need to know about volunteering with young people? “It’s very rewarding but it can be daunting initially. You need to be patient, particularly with younger students, and be prepared to do some preparation in advance of the tutoring sessions.
